Adobe announced the availability of Adobe Flash Builder 4 and Flex 4 to improve rich Internet application (RIA) development for developers, enterprise IT departments and independent software providers in the rapidly growing PHP community, and Zend is part of the story.

“By including Zend Framework within Flash Builder 4, we are allowing enterprise PHP developers to easily introspect PHP classes using the powerful new data-centric development capabilities within Flash Builder,” said Bryant Macy, director of product marketing at Adobe. “Building RIAs just got easier for PHP developers with Zend technologies and the Flash Platform.”

Using the Adobe Flash Platform with PHP

Zend and Adobe have been working together to deliver an integrated solution for building rich Internet applications based on the Adobe Flash Platform, including Flex 4 and Adobe Flash Builder 4. Adobe Flash Builder 4 and Zend Studio 7 are both based on Eclipse version 3.5, providing PHP developers with one Integrated Development Environment for developing and debugging both the front- and back-ends of PHP and Flex-based applications.

Zend Framework AMF Support

Zend Framework with Action Message Format support (Zend AMF) is bundled with Adobe Flash Builder 4, providing an open, binary, high-speed format for rapid client-server data exchange. Zend AMF also helps ensure scalability of RIAs, especially as data load increases, while simultaneously reducing development time

Google Wave was officially launched in beta a couple of weeks ago and already plenty of people realize its potential usefulness.

I guess most of people reading SEJ have joined the party so far (tip: I got my invite by asking on Twitter, you can do the same if you haven’t yet), so I decided to start sharing my tips on how to get the most of Google Wave.

Today’s post is about using Google Wave for finding discussions related to your topic to gather more information, get inspired and track trends:

Have you ever heard about microformats? If you still need someone to clearly explain what it is about, check out Joe Hall’s post on development trends that will impact SEO.

Microformats look for a new way to format markup languages. Essentially, they offer a new standard for identifying important information.

There’s one really nice FireFox addon that uses Microformats to analyze the page content: “Operator” is an extension for Firefox that adds the ability to interact with semantic data on web pages, including microformats, RDFa and eRDF. It can turn really useful for spotting the essential microformats used on the page.

Once you install it, you’ll be able to see the toolbar that can be toggled using View > Toolbars > Operator Toolbar. (Useful tip: To make the tool hassle-free, find the checkbox in Options that causes the toolbar to auto-hide when there is no data on the page).

The toolbar breaks data found on a page into the following sections:

• Contacts;
• Events;
• Locations;
• Tagspaces;
• Bookmarks;
• Resources.

As if integrating Twitter to its search results was not enough, Microsoft announced today that it is also collaborating with Wolfram Alpha – thus bringing its computational knowledge to Bing’s search results.

The new feature will be rolled out in the coming days to U.S-based Bing users.  The roll out will be gradual starting off with nutrition and fitness and some mathematical computational technology with the hope of helping users make some more informed decisions as soon as they’ve done their search on Bing.

Honestly, I’m not a big fan of Wolfram Alpha and its computational algorithm technology. And I’m not particularly sure how this integration will play up with the over all Bing SERPs.

The Bing Community Search blog put up an example illustrating how Bing and Wolfram Alpha will interplay with each other once the Wolfram Alpha is fully integrated with Bing. You may check it out here.

Right now, I’m thinking whether this will actually give Bing any good.  Don’t get me wrong I think Wolfram Alpha is a pretty innovative and powerful computational engine, but it might be too complex for the ordinary search engine users who may may just be looking for straight forward answers to their straight forward questions. Given that Bing is still struggling to gain loyal users, the integration of Wolfram Alpha might  drive away potential users.  Or am I missing out on the potential of this integration?

Microsoft is rolling out the new Bing Videos site aimed at bringing a new unified online video destination.  The new Bing Video site combines Bing’s video search engine and MSN video site.

In addition, the new Bing video site also lets you access videos across the web including those videos from MSN video, Hulu, ABC, and YouTube.This practically translates to over 900+ T.V. shows

Bing videos was also re-organized to make it easier to navigate through the different video content and find the exact videos that you want to watch. And to make your video viewing session more pleasant, you can always turn on the “dim the lights” feature and enjoy watching videos online.  Great if you have that new iMac  or a MacBook hooked up on a 52″ Samsung plasma Tv.

Google is rolling out some useful enhancements to its already useful and powerful Google Analytics tool. These new features give the Analytics tools more power, flexibility and intelligence.

Here are the highlights of the new features of Google Analytics:

• Addition of two new goal types for measuring user engagement and branding success that allows webmasters to set thresholds for Time on Site and Pages per visit. Up to 20 goals can now be defined.
• Improved tracking of mobile websites and mobile apps on mobile devices even if  the device is running Javascript or not. This was made possible through the addition of a server side code snippet on mobile websites using Google Analytics
• Addition of Advanced Table Filtering feature for advance data analysis and for filtering rows in a table based on different metric conditions
• Creation of Custom Report with the option to select Unique Visitors as a measurement against any Google Analytics dimension
• Multiple custom variables, sharing segments and custom report templates for enterprise adaptation of Google Analytics. These tools provide customization options for enterprise Google Analytics usage

These are the highlights of the enhancements that were done to Google Analytics but the most interesting new feature is perhaps the Analytics Intelligence.  This new feature provides automatic alerts when there are significant changes in the data patterns of  site metrics and dimensions on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Analytics Intelligence will prompt you on the most significant indicator that you should pay attention to. This will give you more time on doing corrective action to the issues highlighted by Google Analytics.

Real-time search is so hot these days. Almost everyone is getting into the real-time search bandwagon including Facebook which just rolled out its improved real-time search tool. But ok, yes we could take this as Facebook’s take on Twitter’s real-time search functionality.

So according to the Facebook blog,  we can now search up to the last 30 days of our Facebook News Feed containing status updates, photos, links, videos and notes shared by our Facebook friends.  It will also dig into the Facebook activities of other Facebook members who opted to share their Facebook content to everyone, even if they are not  our friends.  In addition, the Facebook search results page would also continue to contain people’s profiles, Facebook pages, groups and application.

Of course Facebook’s search engine will still give you all those information outright the moment you hit the search button.  You need to click the search filters on the left side of the Facebook search results to filter your results.

Web search is also still enabled, and in case you’re not aware and you’re interested to know, Facebook’s web search is powered by Bing.
